DaVinci Perfume Box Design | Project: Long Beach State

I wanted to make something different than I was used to. So I decided on a perfume packaging project. I called it DaVinci and paralleled Leonardo DaVinci's obsession, love and passion for the human form and the same feelings that your love will have for you when you wear this perfume. It is playfully dark and would be most likely seen in a more alternative store.

DaVinci was notorious for grave-robbing in the middle of the night to obtain bodies for his studies. Therefore, my story begins with the pine box. With a simple, elogant V burned into the top.

The "sheet" is inscribed with the beginning of the story. "Once upon a time, a man fell in love with one of nature's beautiful wonders. The man was..."

And then the reveal. "DaVinci" The box is removed by a rope wrapped around the "body" (box). invoking the way that bodies were laid to rest in the grave with ropes.

I executed the drawings in a style reflective of DaVinci's famous sketches.

As the lid open's, a voice chip is activated and a voice says, "The Journey Begins." We begin to move through the body, much like DaVinci did in his quest for knowledge and his love for God's greatest machine. The panel reads," The body was his love. The mystery of it. The seductive forms hidden beneath the skin. But there was one thing he wanted to find more than all. It became an..." and in red, "obsession."

The new panel revealed reads,"With each layer of muscle removed, he came closer to his desire. His pursuit grew stronger. He had never felt such," and in red, "passion."

Then, with the last panel open, we arrive at DaVinci's treasure, the heart of man...love. The last panel of the story reads," With each layer of muscle removed, he came closer to his desire. His pursuit grew stronger. He had never felt such," and in red, "Love." And then a wish for you, "May you find your true love" The End.

The vile of perfume is also a necklace with the rope that holds it tucked in the box. The LED's illuminate the blood, red vile from behind to give it a strong, impact when you open the last panel and find this striking sight.
